Bank of Valletta announced that with effect from 23rd March 2020, it is introducing a minimum cash withdrawal amount from its branch outlets to help contain the spread of COVID-19.

As from Monday, people visiting the branches will not be allowed to withdraw less than €500 at a time.

In a press release issued on Friday night, BOV said it “understands the crucial role it plays within the Maltese Islands and is very conscious of its responsibility towards the community.

“For this reason, Bank of Valletta continues to offer its services from its branch outlets.

“However, ease of accessibility to bank services has to be balanced with good sense and protective measures in view of the current COVID-19 scenario.

“The Bank is therefore striving to reduce non-essential contact to prevent the virus spread and safeguard the well-being of its employees and customers.”

In view of this, customers visiting any BOV Branch to withdraw cash from the cashiers can now only withdraw cash from €500 upwards.

Customers are urged to use the BOV’s fleet of ATMs throughout Malta and Gozo, where one can withdraw up to €500 at any time of the day.

BOV said the measure is being introduced to reduce the need for customers to visit its branches, thus limiting unnecessary contact and waiting in queues.

“Customers who do not have a bank card and have less than €500 in their account will still be able to go to a branch to withdraw funds. Such customers are urged to apply for their free BOV Cashlink Card.”

BOV stressed how sanitary measures are being taken regularly, but advised the public to take their own measures. It also recommended keeping a one metre distance when queuing for ATMs, to adhere to social distancing advice.

“Bank of Valletta urges the general public to reduce cash usage and instead use electronic channels such as paying with contactless cards and BOV Pay and to carry out banking transactions through BOV Internet Banking, BOV Mobile Banking and Customer Service Centre.

“The Bank appeals to its customers to go to its branches only for urgent services that cannot be obtained through electronic channels.”

BOV gave its "heartfelt thanks to its staff for their commitment, professionalism and dedication to ensure the continuation of essential banking services to the community.
