Andrew Borg Costanzi has been appointed Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at San Francisco-based venture capital company Mechanism Ventures, he announced on Monday.
He thanked the firm’s Director of Talent Acquisition Julie Rathert for the “amazing recruitment process”, before stating that he is “looking forward to this next chapter”.
Through this new role, he will form part of Mechanism Ventures’ EIR programme, which is comprised of two phases with the aim of co-founding companies with a “focus on early profitability”.
In the first stage, he will spend a “sizeable amount of time with Mechanism’s Co-Founders covering a wide variety of topics relevant to launching and scaling start-ups with rapid profitability”. During that process he will participate in a number of activities including “working within parts of the Mechanism business and its portfolio and also including iterative minimum viable product (MVP) builds and concept tests that will inform an eventual start-up,” he explained.
In the second phase, Mechanism Ventures will fund the chosen start-up, resulting in Mr Borg Costanzi becoming CEO, as well as a board member and a significant equity holder in the company.
When contacted by WhosWho.mt, Mr Borg Costanzi explained that Mechanism Ventures focuses on building early-stage companies, with its founders and the rest of the team having experience in building various successful firms.
“Basically, they partner up with individuals like myself who have a background in founding companies and provide me with seed-funding and a world-class team to outsource to in the early stages. Before founding the company, I need to present the results of a successful feasibility test, which in basic terms is proving to them there is life in the idea I want to pursue,” he said.
Mr Borg Costanzi confirmed that while he will visit the United States regularly, he “won’t be based there” and will instead be working remotely. He plans to “work in different countries in Europe, starting with Portugal”.
Prior to his new role, Mr Borg Costanzi served as Head of Performance Marketing, Conversion Rate Optimisation and Retention at iGaming marketing company Growth Leads for 10 months. He was also Co-Founder and Head of Growth at wine subscription provider Vinotyp.com, and also Founder of Wine Technologies, a company that prioritised creating digital products within wine, both for over a year. Mr Borg Costanzi’s experience also includes more than three years at digital marketing agency ANCHOVY, first as Junior SEO Executive, before working his way up to Head of Growth.
