Alfred Sant has been selected to lead the Labour MEP delegation following Miriam Dalli’s exit from the European Parliament to take a seat in the national Parliament.

The party’s executive voted unanimously in favour of the appointment, the PL said in a statement.

Mr Sant was Leader of the Labour Party between 1992 and 2008, serving as Prime Minister of Malta between 1996 and 1998.

He is the party’s longest serving MEP, having been in the post since 2014.

Miriam Dalli took her oath as an MP on Monday, filling the seat vacated by ex-Labour Party leader Joseph Muscat, who resigned amidst political turmoil in December 2019.
