Cross College Group has become the main sponsor of Rabat Ajax FC as the football club marks 40 years since its last major national trophy.
“Forty years makes this a particularly special moment in the history of Rabat Ajax FC, and hopefully it can become an even more memorable one,” said Mario Cordina, the Director of Studies at Cross College Group.
Speaking to WhosWho.mt, Rabat Ajax FC President Glen Micallef said the new sponsorship comes at an important time for the club, which is currently working towards promotion to a higher division. The team is currently in the BOV National League II.
Mr Micallef explained that the club has set itself a three-year target, which includes investment in new players as well as continued development across all the teams within Rabat Ajax FC.
He said that the club also carried out works on its football ground during the year, including the installation of new lighting and turf.
The club is now aiming to further improve its facilities by adding a gym and ice baths, allowing players to access the training and recovery facilities they need under one roof.
The sponsorship comes as Cross College enters a period of growth, with the educational institution looking to deepen its involvement with Maltese communities and local organisations.
Speaking to this newsroom about the decision to support Rabat Ajax FC, the Director of Studies said the partnership was a natural fit, with education and sport sharing a number of common values.
“Our connection is really through shared values and community, but football is also a shared passion,” Mr Cordina said.
“Rabat Ajax FC represents a community with a very strong identity, history and tradition, and we are very pleased that this partnership gives us an opportunity to become part of that,” he added.
The Director of Studies also highlighted the wider role businesses can play through sports sponsorship, arguing that such partnerships should go beyond simply gaining visibility.
“I think local sport sponsorship should be seen as much more than putting a company logo on a shirt or around a football ground,” he said.
“Sport brings together young people, families, supporters and local organisations. If businesses support that environment, everybody can benefit.”
