In tomorrow’s episode of The Boardroom, airing live at 3pm on WhosWho.mt’s Facebook page, Malta’s cultural and artistic events sector will be placed under the spotlight.

Following Prime Minister Robert Abela’s announcement that COVID-19-related restrictions will be lifted come 15th July, the events sector were given a ray of hope that some sort of activity could be generated over the summer.

Presented by business-writer Jo Caruana, Managing Director of FM Theatre Productions & Senior Principal Stagecoach of the Performing Arts School, Edward Mercieca, one of Malta’s most famous tenors, Joseph Calleja and Director at Moveo Dance Company, Diane Portelli, will explore the complicated road ahead for the sector.

While restrictions are to be lifted, changes to human behaviour, limited tourist numbers and reduced disposable income by the general public are expected to create a medium-term dent to events and concerts.

Many virtual concerts and events found success locally throughout the COVID-19 period, and it remains to be seen whether a greater element of virtual shows will be retained, in a bid to reach more people – those who are vulnerable or simply cannot afford the luxury anymore of buying event tickets.
