Karl Azzopardi has officially been named as CEO of the Building and Construction Authority (BCA).

The BCA was formed on the recommendations of an expert report into excavation and construction practices following the tragic death of Miriam Pace last year when her home collapsed.

It is responsible for the design, implementation and dissemination of policies together with the consolidation and review of laws and regulations, in the form of a national building code.

The other members of the board, as announced by Environment Minister Aaron Farrugia and Parliamentary Secretary for Construction, Chris Agius, are:

Maria Schembri Grima, chairperson; Roberta Cutajar, secretary; and Ian Borg, Abigail Cutajar, Robert Ellul Sciberras, David Xuereb, Denise Micallef Xuereb, Eve Degiorgio, Charles Ellul, Desiree Attard, Charmaine Mangion and David Bonello (the Opposition's nominee).
