A second-generation business owner, Marcus Bonnici has been involved in the business from a very young age. After spending 15 years working in the construction and industrial equipment sector, he moved to the retail sector just over five years ago.

“As the person in charge of JYSK Malta, I am responsible for retail operations, expansion, and brand development together with my team. Our mission is to be the customer’s first choice in sleeping and living. We make it easy to furnish every home and every room, even the outdoor spaces,” Mr Bonnici explains.

JYSK Malta is part of an international retail chain that sells ‘everything for the home’ and is owned by the original founder, Lars Larsen, known throughout Denmark as the country’s leading merchant who always has ‘a great offer’.

When he opened his first store in Denmark’s second largest city, Aarhus, in 1979, Larsen had great ambitions, though he never imagined how quickly his business would grow. He went on to open several successful JYSK Sengetøjslager - the original store name until 2001 - locations throughout Denmark and, in 1984, he opened his first store beyond the country’s borders, in neighbouring Germany. The outlet in Malta was inaugurated in 2016.
