Joseph Schembri gained over 45 years of experience at audit firm Joseph Tabone & Co, which was admitted as a full member of KPMG International in 1989, when he was appointed Senior Partner.

He has signed off a number of high-profile companies such as GO plc, Lombard Bank plc, MedServ plc, Mid Med Bank, and HSBC Insurance Limited, amongst others, and has also acted as quality review partner while KPMG audited the Central Bank of Malta. Over the years, the firm from around 20 staff members to 250, with 10 partners. Mr Schembri also acted as HR Partner for several years and Partner responsible for IT within the firm.

“Between 2012 and 2014 I was assigned to Libya to set up a KPMG office in the country, and was responsible for audit clients and the firm’s risk management,” Mr Schembri shares.

In July 2014, he joined Baker Tilly Malta as a lead and technical audit consultant. Since 2015, he has been appointed on listed and non-listed entities as Non-Executive Director and Chair of audit committees.

“My auditing experience covers a number of industries, from banks to insurance companies, manufacturing, tourism, gas and oil, construction, and retail and wholesale entities. I have also enjoyed working in the UK, Cairo, and Libya,” Mr Schembri adds.
