APS Bank plc has registered a record Group pre-tax profit of €34.5 million for the nine months ended 30th September 2026, representing a 94 per cent increase from the €17.8 million recorded during the corresponding period last year.

At Bank level, pre-tax profits reached €35.4 million, up 94.7 per cent from €18.2 million in the first nine months of 2025.

The results build on the bank's strong performance during the first half of the year, reflecting sustained growth in revenues, lending activity and improved operational efficiency.

Group profit after tax more than doubled to €22.7 million, compared to €10.5 million in the corresponding period last year, while return on average equity improved from 4.7 per cent to 8.6 per cent.

A key contributor to the performance was a 37.5 per cent increase in net interest income, which reached €77.7 million, up from €56.5 million in 2025.

This growth was primarily driven by an expansion in retail and commercial lending, improved funding costs and stronger returns from the bank's treasury portfolio.

Meanwhile, interest expenses declined from €34.7 million to €25.6 million, despite an increase in customer deposits, as the bank continued shifting towards lower-cost funding sources.

Consequently, the group's net interest margin strengthened to 2.23 per cent, compared to 1.80 per cent during the same period last year.

Net fee and commission income also increased by 22.1 per cent to €8.7 million, supported by higher revenues from investment services, insurance, pensions and transactional banking activities.

Despite the improved profitability, net impairment charges increased to €3.5 million from €0.5 million, largely reflecting additional provisions relating to commercial and syndicated loans.

Nevertheless, the bank's non-performing loan ratio remained relatively low at 1.48 per cent.

Operating expenses rose modestly by 3.7 per cent to €48.9 million, reflecting continued investment in employees, technology, cybersecurity and operational resilience.

The bank's cost-to-income ratio improved significantly, declining from 72.8 per cent to 56.6 per cent, indicating greater efficiency in generating revenue relative to operating costs.

APS Bank's total group assets reached €4.91 billion by the end of September, an increase of €260.7 million since December 2025.

The growth was largely driven by a €326.8 million expansion in the retail and corporate loan portfolio, representing an increase of 9.7 per cent.

Customer deposits also increased by €216.2 million during the nine-month period.

Meanwhile, group equity stood at €367.1 million, supported by profits generated during the year.

The bank maintained a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio of 16.43 per cent and a capital adequacy ratio of 21.17 per cent, compared to 17.6 per cent and 23.2 per cent respectively at the end of 2025.

Commenting on the results, APS Bank CEO Marcel Cassar said the record performance demonstrated the strength of the bank's business model and its progress towards greater profitability.

The results “once again prove the momentum and strength of our business and underline the progress we are making in building a more efficient, focused and profitable banking franchise,” he said.
