Fast food chain Subway on Thursday announced that it has closed down all restaurants in Malta and will be leaving the country for good.

In a social media post, Subway thanked its customers who “have always been there to enjoy the taste of Subway”.

“We know the love for Subway never ends and we look forward to seeing you again,” it added.

“We will be waiting for you with freshly made ingredients at our locations around the world,” the chain concluded.

The post was accompanied by an image stating Subway has closed all of its restaurants in the country, before thanking everyone for “supporting” the brand.

It most recently had restaurants at Gżira, Sliema, and Msida. In previous years, it was also located in Valletta and Fgura, among other areas.

Subway is an American fast food restaurant franchise that specialises in sandwiches and wraps, with a presence in North America and Europe. It prides itself on its bread which it says is “baked fresh daily”, and its “new flavourful signature subs or classic fan favourites made fresh to order”.
