Tech.mt has seen Maltese technology companies increase their participation in its programmes and initiatives, with more than 300 businesses having been assisted by the entity in 2025.

These join over 540 businesses that have listed their companies in Tech.mt’s member directory, as well as 55 industry partners whose remit includes providing expertise and mentorship in support of technology-led startups and projects.

More specifically, Tech.mt’s inMalta business missions enabled 58 companies to attend major international events, such as GITEX Europe, London Tech Week, GITEX Global and Web Summit, with the aim of boosting their visibility in international markets.

“The participating companies represented a cross-section of Malta’s digital and technology ecosystem, including fintech, digital education, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, software development, data analytics and digital marketing,” says Tech.mt’s Business Development and Project Coordinator Christian Vassallo Manché. He also adds that “this diversity reflects the strength, maturity, and innovative capacity of Malta’s digital sector”.

The events were selected “due to their strong international reach, their relevance across key areas of the digital economy, and their ability to attract investors, innovators, and tech companies.” GITEX Europe and GITEX Global facilitated connections between Maltese firms and potential international partners while London Tech Week provided “innovation-driven networking opportunities”. Moreover, Web Summit's startup programme furthered access to other stakeholders in the tech industry operating across the European Union (EU).

By coordinating these outreach opportunities for tech companies, Tech.mt, whose goal is to promote and strengthen Malta’s digital ecosystem by supporting local and international business connections , continues to work towards “positioning Malta internationally as a competitive hub for digital innovation and investment” Mr Vassallo Manché continues.

The foundation also seeks to “give Maltese businesses direct access to global markets; to support the growth of emerging industries; and to showcase Malta’s value to potential partners, investors and technology leaders.

This approach supports Tech.mt’s long-term commitment to strengthening Malta’s presence in international markets and driving sustained economic growth through digital innovation,” he explains.

Referring to the benefits of attending these events, Mr Vassallo Manché highlights that “with a record number of companies joining these inMalta business missions, Tech.mt ensured that these companies benefited from international exposure under a unified, nationally recognised brand.”

Feedback from participants highlighted increased international exposure, as well as “access to new global markets, and strong networking opportunities with industry leaders and innovators. Many also identified tangible prospects for collaboration, or market expansion, reinforcing the impact of representing Malta collectively under the inMalta brand,” says Tech.mt’s Business Development and Project Coordinator.

Throughout 2025, the foundation also organised, contributed to, and participated in a total of 37 local events, including business breakfasts, stakeholder meetings, national expos, startup meetups, industry award ceremonies, and sector-focused workshops, to strengthen digital adoption, promote upskilling, and reinforce the ecosystem engagement across the country.

Tech.mt further hosted a number of its own initiatives, including Jobs of the Future and the Tech.mt: Support for Tech Businesses – Your Gateway to Funding, Growth & Internationalisation event, which aimed to showcase emerging career opportunities and available funding for startups and growing businesses. The inMalta information sessions and the participation in school career days, provided guidance and networking opportunities for students, job seekers and professionals exploring local and international pathways. Meanwhile, events such as Startup Festival Malta and TechXpo brought together innovators, entrepreneurs and technology professionals to share insight and connect with potential partners and investors.“The most impactful of these initiatives were those that offered practical digital guidance to non-tech businesses, making digital tools and emerging technologies more accessible and easier to adopt,” Mr Vassallo Manché says.

Elaborating, he notes that “these events and initiatives also helped SMEs explore new digital processes, automate administrative tasks, and understand compliance and operational efficiencies. Businesses reported increased confidence in integrating digital workflows after attending these events, highlighting how these hands-on sessions can drive real transformation even among traditionally non-digital sectors.”

Startups were amongst those companies that benefited most and, crucially, Tech.mt has prioritised increasing the participation of micro and smaller firms within the local and international tech ecosystem. Since its inception in 2019, more than 50 startups have benefitted from Tech.mt’s Strategic Partnership Initiative, which provides targeted support.

“Its main goals are to provide tailored guidance, resources, and connections to help startups commercialise their solutions, to strengthen Malta’s attractiveness as a destination for digital entrepreneurship, and to facilitate access to investors, industry experts, and international exposure,” Mr Vassallo Manché explains.

In 2025, the entity also “observed a notable shift in the types of startups seeking support through this initiative,” the Business Development and Project Coordinator confirm. “There was an increase in interest from startups operating within AI, cybersecurity, and digital health sectors. This trend indicates that Malta’s startup ecosystem is evolving to reflect the priorities and opportunities within the global digital landscape. Tech.mt also noted a rise in startups focused on sustainability-oriented digital solutions and technologies designed to improve business processes.”

Looking ahead to 2026, Tech.mt plans to expand their inMalta business missions, and to introduce new digital adoption initiatives specifically tailored for small and medium-sized enterprises. “These initiatives will include practical toolkits and sector-specific workshops, equipping SMEs with the resources and knowledge needed to effectively integrate digital solutions into their operations,” Mr Vassallo Manché says.

Local talent will also be nurtured further, he affirms. “Tech.mt will also put a strong emphasis on strengthening talent pathways. This will be achieved through close collaboration with educational institutions and industry stakeholders, creating more opportunities for skills development and career progression in the digital sector.”

In preparation for 2026, Tech.mt will be launching an Expression of Interest (EOI) for three key 2026 international missions under the inMalta initiative: LEAP in April, London Tech Week in June, and Web Summit in November.

“These events were selected for their strategic relevance, strong international reach, and alignment with Malta’s priority digital sectors. Through participation in these global platforms, Tech.mt aims to provide Maltese companies and start-ups with early access to high-value opportunities, support new cross-border collaborations, and expand Malta’s profile across emerging tech markets,” Mr Vassallo Manché states.

“In so doing, Tech.mt remains committed to fostering a resilient, innovative, and future-ready digital ecosystem for Malta,” he concludes.
