Millie Group, a global, online university and careers guidance organisation for international school students and counsellors, has established a base in Malta after securing a €670,000 financing package from Malta Enterprise.

The firm participated in the first cohort of SuperCharger Ventures, an educational technology (edtech) accelerator, in late 2023.

Co-Founder and COO Giuseppe Iademarco reflected on the company’s decision to set up shop in Malta, praising its business environment, access to talent, and location, as well as the support provider by SuperCharger Ventures.

Writing on LinkedIn, he admitted that the decision to join the accelerator was only taken “after much deliberation”.

“We did not feel we needed to be “accelerated”; plus, with so many business priorities already set for the year, was this really the best use of our time?”

However, the programme, “turned out to be a great investment of our time,” he said.

It certainly paid off from a funding perspective, with the company securing €500,000 under the Startup Finance scheme and another €170,000 as a business development grant.

As a remote-first company, Millie (Malta) will be its first in-person hub, with the firm taking advantage of the country’s characteristics as part of its growth strategy.

Mr Iademarco said that he found Malta “a practical and open place to do business”. He was also impressed with the quality of the local workforce, but also realised that “hiring in Malta means tapping into the whole European labour market, with the island being an increasingly attractive destination for people to relocate to.”

He also noted that Malta is “situated perfectly if you cover or want to cover Europe/Middle East/Asia, both in terms of timezone and travel time.”

Millie’s main markets are in fact Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia, with a go-to-market strategy revolving around the onboarding of international schools as partners.
