Steve Agius has been appointed as the new CEO of the Agency Identità by the Minister for Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality, Byron Camilleri.
For the past four years, Mr Agius has held the position of CEO at Mater Dei Hospital. He was the head of the COVID-19 national vaccination programme and was responsible for the vaccine rollout. Before assuming his role at Mater Dei Hospital, he served as a Chief Information Officer with the national telecom regulator.
Prior to that, he was a Project Manager, leading numerous projects locally and abroad in Strategic Information Management, business transformation and process modelling.
In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr Agius is a senior visiting lecturer at the University of Malta, where he lectures on big data analytics.
He has a degree in information systems and computing and an MBA in e-business. He is pursuing a doctorate in the use of data in strategic decision-making with the University of Malta and the John Moores University in Liverpool.
Minister Byron Camilleri congratulated Steve Agius for this new role within Identità, which Agency is used by every individual in one way or another during one's life, and that “with his abilities and experience, he will continue to lead the Agency forward.”
Minister Camilleri also thanked Colonel Mark Mallia for his important work at the Identity Agency during the past years.
With effect from next Month, Colonel Mallia will join the Foundation for Medical Services (FMS) as CEO replacing Carmen Ciantar who resigned.
Colonel Mallia has graduated in Business Management from University of Malta. He had a long career in the Armed Forces of Malta and held various prominent roles of responsibility.
Ms Ciantar, who was Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds, Social Dialogue and Consumer Protection of Malta Chris Fearne’s campaign manager was given a €13,000 a month contract. This was eventually found to be irregular by the NAO.
Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela thanked her for her vision and dedication during the last seven years and a half and congratulated the Colonel for his new role.
