Ruben Azzopardi, who was Country Manager – Malta at Cisco, has left the tech solutions company after 16 years, he announced on Monday.
Mr Azzopardi had joined the technology solutions company back in 2008, becoming the first Cisco person based in Malta. At the time, the company was setting up operations in Malta and he had initially been responsible for customer relationships and business development.
“Time to say goodbye and thank you!” Mr Azzopardi said in his announcement.
“Working alongside wonderful colleagues, partners and customers has been an absolute pleasure. The enthusiasm I felt every day was due to our shared achievements and the challenges we overcame together,” he added.
Throughout his career at the company, Mr Azzopardi grew the business rapidly, winning major infrastructure contracts as a service provider and within the public sector. He also developed a technical understanding of Cisco’s security portfolio and won multimillion security deals in Malta and Cyprus.
“Cisco’s brand enabled me to grow both professionally and personally, and for that, I’m forever grateful to the outstanding leaders and peers who supported and mentored me. I loved working with this amazing team,” he continued.
He expressed gratitude towards the strategic partners and customers in Malta and Cyprus, noting that their support, efforts, and friendship proved to be “invaluable” for his success. “I hope they can see I have contributed in some way to their successes too,” Mr Azzopardi added.
As he wished good luck to his friends at Cisco, partners, and distributors, Mr Azzopardi also said that he hopes the next chapter in his career will be as rewarding as his time at Cisco.
“Who knows, our paths may cross again,” he remarked, before adding that more information about his next position will be shared in the coming days.
Over the years, Mr Azzopardi, a seasoned sales professional, has gained a proven track record in serving public sector and private sector customers, service providers and channel partners, in a bid to understand their needs and challenges.
Mr Azzopardi holds a Bachelor of Engineering from University of Malta and a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration from University of Leicester. He is a warranted electrical engineer, and has years of experience working in IT positions. These include a number of years as Head of IT Department at GO plc, as well as Technical Sales Manager at Megabyte Ltd Malta.
