Experienced finance professional Kevin Abela on Tuesday announced that he has re-entered the investment banking world by joining CACEIS.

“I just did it. I boomeranged back into investment banking after almost 20 years. Really curious to find out what I’ve been missing and what’s new,” he said.

Prior to his new position, Mr Abela, who is based in Luxembourg, spent a year as Senior Finance Manager at commerce platform Gopuff and more than 14 years in a variety of senior management roles at Amazon. His most recent role in the investment banking world came to an end back in 2007, having spent two years at HSBC Securities as Senior Fund Administrator.

At Paris-based CACEIS, he will be taking on a role he describes as “exciting”, focused on finance, pricing and profitability, on a hybrid work basis. “It’s a role that brings my two worlds together – banking and finance, and finance operations,” he explained.

Mr Abela added that he is “very grateful to have this opportunity” and he is ready for what is ahead.

In a separate post, he also revealed that he had initially joined RBC Investor Services, a division of Royal Bank of Canada. However, the asset servicing business was sold to CACEIS earlier this month, enabling Royal Bank of Canada to completely shift its focus to its Canadian market. CACEIS is the asset servicing banking group of Crédit Agricole and Santander that is fully dedicated to asset managers, insurance companies, pension funds, banks, private equity and real estate funds, brokers and corporate clients. It has offices across Europe, North and South America, as well as Asia.

“It’s refreshing to join a company that is looking and acting so positively in the current economic climate,” Mr Abela continued.

He also added that he has joined on a fixed-term contract, and as a result he is “looking forward to the challenge to make it a permanent one”.

Mr Abela describes himself as an “experienced finance leader” within the technology and investment management industries, possessing a “strong financial know-how in strategic financial and business planning, cost controlling, profitability and risk management”. Aside from the aforementioned experiences, he also worked as Financial Planning and Control Executive at Vodafone and Financial Advisor at Hogg Capital Investments Ltd.

He holds a Master of Science in Finance and Financial Management Services from University of London and a Bachelor of Commerce in Management, Banking and Finance from University of Malta.
