P&O Cruises’ MS Azura made 29 calls to Malta during what was described as a “turnaround season”, local agent Mifsud Brothers Ltd confirmed on Friday.
MS Azura is one of the largest cruise ships in P&O Cruises’ fleet, offering 23 dining options and bars, three theatres and lounges, as well as four pools. It is home to 1,557 cabins, including 434 inside, 195 sea view, 700 balcony, 182 superior deluxe balcony, 26 suite, 18 single, and two family cabins.
The ship, which operated journeys starting from and ending in Valletta every Thursday from 30th March until 12th October (yesterday) of this year, hosted 85,638 passengers. Mifsud Brothers said that the guests were “predominantly British”, yet there was the “added delight” of several hundred Maltese visitors.
The company added that MS Azura will return to Malta in 2024, offering similar seven-night and 14-night Mediterranean cruises.
“A simple ‘thank you’ feels insufficient to express our profound appreciation for the dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, ensuring the success of each call, and creating unforgettable experiences to all the guests that embarked in Valletta,” Mifsud Brothers continued.
Mifsud Brothers started to operate as agents for P&O Cruises in 2015, following the consolidation with Carnival Corporation. The combined fleet has more than 100 ships visit 700 ports globally, with nearly 13 million guests setting sail every year across Carnival’s brands.
On Thursday afternoon, P&O Cruises hosted a reception on board to convey its gratitude to all stakeholders, suppliers, and key contributors who played a “pivotal role in this season’s success”.

“We eagerly anticipate welcoming the Azura back to Malta in 2024,” Mifsud Brothers concluded.
Mifsud Brothers was originally set up in 1860 under the name C & G Fratelli Mifsud. It was changed to its present name in 1933, and over the years has grown to become a company that handles vessels ranging from luxury mega-yachts to cruise liners. It has also assisted a number of ships undergoing repairs and refurbishments at Malta Drydocks.
