Rumours that the iconic Empire Cinema has shut its doors for good have been quashed by its owner, Polidano Group, who said “no such decision has been taken”.
On Sunday, a Facebook Page dedicated to international cinema appreciation, Cinema Heritage Group, posted about the Bugibba establishment.
It noted that the cinema’s website has been suspended and there is no activity on social media, saying “It appears the Empire multiplex has *closed* its doors for good,” while acknowledging that no official statement has been made on the matter.
Cinema Heritage Group surmised that the cinema fell victim to the COVID-19 pandemic, which left such leisure establishments unable to operate.
