The XEV YoYo, an electric vehicle that is almost entirely 3D-printed, has landed in Malta.
It was designed with only 57 components, most of which were 3D-printed. Only the chassis, seats and glass components were not manufactured using 3D printers.
It has a top speed of 90km/h, a maximum range of 150km, and weighs 400kg.
The XEV YoYo is the product of a multinational effort. XEV is based in Hong Kong, but maintains a styling office in Turin, Italy, for former FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) designers.
The YoYo features a replaceable battery back, making it easy to swap out batteries for longer drives.
The two-seater vehicle is only available with a left-hand drive, but the vendor argues that at just 1.5m wide, it is perfectly driveable on Maltese roads.
The vehicle is available from Belevari, in Gżira, and costs €17,999. The Government extends a grant of €4,000, making the take-home price €13,999.
The grant is lower than that available to cars since the XEV YoYo is classed as a heavy quadricycle.
Speaking to WhosWho.mt, importer Berend Lens van Rijn says that the interest generated has been substantial, with some 30 test-drives already booked.
“I’ve been following this company for some time now, and with the XEV YoYo now on its third generation, the tweaks they’ve made have ensured that the power, the AC, the driving experience are all great.”
