Malta's ultra-endurance swimmer, Neil Agius, has officially set a new world record for the longest unassisted, current-neutral ocean swim.

The World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) has ratified his impressive 142.3 km swim, completed in 60 hours, 35 minutes, and 4 seconds. The swim, which began in Mellieħa Bay and concluded at Għar Lapsi on 23rd September 2024, now stands as a monumental achievement in open water swimming.

Sharing the achievement on his Facebook page, Mr Agius expressed his gratitude to his team for their dedication in ensuring all documentation was submitted correctly to WOWSA, which played a key role in the timely approval of the record.

He also thanked the organisation for their attention to detail in ratifying the swim.

This record-setting feat is yet another testament to Mr Agius's unwavering determination and the support of his team, continuing to inspire the nation with his remarkable achievements in the world of endurance sports.
