Naxxar eco spa Sanya announced it is closing its doors in June after almost ten years in business.

Sanya founder Yasmin de Giorgio said the spa had come under increased environmental stress in recent years and was unable to agree a contract extension with its landlord, leading to the tough decision to cease operations at Hilltop Gardens on 15th June.

“When we opened Sanya ten years ago, I was a young fresh-faced girl with a vision to create a holistic sanctuary with a difference, a place of depth and real heartfelt support with a more holistic understanding of what wellbeing truly means,” Ms de Giorgio said.

“Lasting ten years is no joke as a business and we only lasted that long because many of you resonated with our vision, trusted us and had positive experiences with us.”

She thanked her staff who realised her vision of opening a wellness centre where people could feel comfortable and at ease, without being pressured into buying product or spending large amounts of money,

“Despite going through their own challenges and having their own bad days, they always strove to have care and love towards our clients and treat you with the humanity and care you deserve,” she said.

Ms de Giorgio said the “spirit of Sanya” will live on but will take her time to decide what format that would take.

“I don’t want to keep doing the same thing we’ve always done just because it’s easy or because of some capitalistic notion that we have to keep selling and producing – that’s never been Sanya’s ultimate intention,” she said.

“We will take a bit of a pause and seek within ourselves what resonates, what our community needs and what we can help support.”

She said she intends to provide more clarity towards the beginning or middle of next year.
