Ryan Galea, CEO at soon-to-be-launched The Adventure Hub in Ta’ Qali, has stated that the entertainment sector is on an upward trajectory, as more corporate customers and members of the general public are seeking outdoor activities.
Mr Galea comes from a retail background having been part of the family business behind the local Surplus & Adventure stores for more than 20 years. The Adventure Hub represents the latest project in the business’s pipeline, with it being Malta’s first corporate adventure park, containing activities such as paintball, laser tag, zipline, obstacle course, as well as camping areas, among other facilities.
Speaking to WhosWho.mt, Mr Galea said that the idea behind the park came from his father and company Founder Raymond Galea. Mr [Ryan] Galea explained that he and his younger brother Neil Galea have now taken over the family business, together with the group’s retail arm.
Through Laserwar Malta, another one of the group’s ventures, Mr Galea and his brother already have experience working in laser tag games and paintball, yet he remarked that they have “always felt that there was a need to have a fully-fledged activity park” that incorporates various activities.
He explained that the facility is currently operating at 20 per cent, having spent “seven long years” working to prepare the facility to open to the public.
Mr Galea said that they are happy with has been achieved so far, and more activities will be announced “within the coming months." While he said that there are no official opening dates yet for the full park, it is open for laser tag and paintball activities for now.
Aside from his roles as Surplus & Adventure Director, Laserwar Malta Director and CEO at The Adventure Hub, Mr Galea is also Director at Innovative Solutions Malta, as well as Publisher and CEO of Horeca Malta. His experience spans retail and technology, to entertainment and events, primarily focusing on marketing and logistics.
“I have worked and set up a number of successful companies within the entertainment industry for a very long time, which I have now given away to focus on our latest projects related to retail, adventure activity, and hospitality,” he explained.
However, while he acknowledged that managing these different businesses requires a lot of time management from his end and working plenty of long hours, Mr Galea said that the businesses manage to continue operating at their current pace because of the “strong team of dedicated people” that management can rely on.
“Our retail arm of the group manages a portfolio of more than 40 brands in the outdoor business. Recently, myself and my brother have taken over the family business and he manages the Surplus & Adventure side while I am heading The Adventure Hub project,” Mr Galea remarked.
As he looked ahead and forecast how Malta’s entertainment sector will look like in the coming years, he said: “It is clear that many corporate customers and the general public are looking for more of these games and craving more outdoor activities.”
The group's key objective, Mr Galea insisted, is to give each client a "unique customer experience to remember" and to be "hungry to come back."
