The Malta Information Technology Agency (MITA) has paid heartfelt tribute to Bernard, one of its employees, who recently passed away after battling two rare medical conditions.
Bernard was known for his adventurous spirit and passion for outdoor activities such as camping and trekking.
He faced Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) and Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID), both rare disorders affecting the immune system. ITP leads to a reduction in platelets, causing easy bruising, while CVID results in low antibody levels, making individuals more susceptible to infections and immune dysfunction.
MITA described Bernard as an “integral part of the MITA family,” highlighting his dedication, integrity, and generosity. “His warmth, kindness, and unwavering support enriched both our workplace and our lives,” the agency said.
“Though his presence will be deeply missed, the memories we shared and the impact he made will continue to inspire us every day. Rest in peace, Bernard. Your spirit and kindness will always be remembered,” the tribute concluded.
Rare Diseases Malta also paid tribute to Bernard, describing him as a “remarkable, intelligent and kind” individual.
“You were brave enough to reach out to us, and you treated us not just as advocates but as friends,” the tribute read.
The NGO fondly remembered Bernard’s enthusiasm for travel this summer, his eagerness to share stories, and his joyful participation in the summer fundraiser.
His cheerful greetings and lively spirit will be deeply missed, but colleagues find comfort imagining him free once more, exploring and hiking in the great outdoors he loved.
