The Malta Financial Services Authority has announced the appointment of Christopher Aquilina as its new Head of FinTech.
Dr Aquilina brings experience in supervisory technology, ICT risk, and cybersecurity, having most recently served as Deputy Head of the Supervisory ICT Risk and Cybersecurity function within the Authority. In that role, he contributed to enhancing digital operational resilience across the financial services industry while supporting regulatory engagement on emerging technology risks.
In his new position, Dr Aquilina will lead the MFSA’s FinTech function, with a mandate to facilitate innovation, support the continued development of Malta’s digital finance ecosystem, and ensure that technological advancements are underpinned by effective oversight and resilience.
He has been with the MFSA for close to four years. Prior to joining the Authority, he worked with the Ministry for Health as a manager and with the Malta Information Technology Agency as an EU affairs and international cybersecurity policy acting consultant.
Dr Aquilina graduated as a lawyer from the University of Malta in 2025.
