Malta-based deep tech company Merqury Cybersecurity has been named among the Top 20 startups in Slush 100, the signature startup competition at Slush 2025, one of the world’s leading founder-focused tech events held annually in Helsinki.

The company will now pitch in the semi-finals on 19th November 2025, competing for a place in the top three and the potential to secure a €1 million equity investment.

Professor André Xuereb, Founder and CEO of Merqury Cybersecurity, described the milestone as an important moment for the team and the technology they are bringing to market. “Being named to the Slush Top 20 is a strong validation of the technical and commercial path we’re on,” he said. “Our focus is simple: Make quantum-safe connectivity practical on today’s networks, so banks, governments, critical infrastructure and others can protect long-lived data against tomorrow’s threats.”

Merqury develops software that enables quantum-safe communications on the same internet and cloud connections already in operation, providing additional protection without requiring network replacement. Its approach combines quantum-resistant encryption with quantum-level key exchange, ensuring that even if sensitive traffic is intercepted today, it remains indecipherable in the future.

Professor Xuereb added that Slush offers a valuable platform to push this technology toward real-world adoption. “Together with our partners, we’re turning quantum security from a research and development topic into a deployable capability,” he noted. “Helsinki is an opportunity to meet the operators and investors who are ready to take this from pilots to production.”

The Slush 100 competition filters more than 1,000 applicants down to the Top 100, then further through the Top 50 and Top 20, before reaching the Top Three and final winner. The competition concludes on 20 November.

Slush 2025 will take place between 19 and 20 November at Helsinki’s Messukeskus convention centre, bringing together founders, investors, and global innovation leaders for high-profile matchmaking, networking, and competition.
