A Maltese team has reached the final of the MyGalileoDrone competition ran by the European Global Navigation Satellite Systems Agency (GNNS).

The competition challenges competitors to design, develop, test and prepare for commercial launch a drone-based application and/or service able to provide a position and/or time fix by using the GNSS Galileo technology.

Pixam.io, the Maltese based team announced on Monday that it is a finalist for the award. The GNNS congratulated them for their progress so far and said it looked forward to seeing them at the online “Entrepreneurship Day” on 2nd March, when the competition winners will be announced.

Their entry, piXbrush, “is able to use both drones and unmanned ground vehicles in combinational working to create a semi-automatic process to assess and maintain road surface markings.”

The team, with funding from Malta Council for Science and Technology, and partnership with Transport Malta, MCAST, MAFA, Ambjent Malta, 4sight Group and Marsovin Winery, now stands a chance at being awarded the first prize, which is €100,000.
