Children from Maltese orphanages will be the special guests on the inaugural trip of the Ragusa Xpress, a new catamaran service officially launching on 17th May to connect Malta with the Marina di Ragusa port in Sicily.

The choice to place children at the heart of the launch is a gesture that reflects the values of Ragusa Xpress owner Paul Gauci, who is well known for his philanthropic efforts. Mr Gauci, who is also the Founder and largest shareholder of PG Group – operators of the PAVI and PAMA supermarkets – has previously donated shares in the company to a number of charitable causes, including the Ursuline Homes, which care for children and young people without a family.

The service follows a successful test run in January 2024 and was initially set to launch in September. However, delays related to permits pushed the start date back to this month. Notably, the ferry to be used was previously operated by Virtu Ferries, one of Ragusa Xpress’s competitors.
