Trailblazing Maltese American scientist Charmaine Demanuele Nayak is moving into 2022 on a high, having received a promotion at pharma giant Pfizer, becoming Senior Director, Head of Digital Medicine and Translational Imaging Statistics.

While the promotion sees her hit new heights, the scientist has already had a successful year, being featured as a Pfizer Science Star.

As part of this, Dr Demanuele Nayak explained how she enjoys using statistics and data science coupled with digital health technologies to drive better and more frequent measures of function, activity and quality of life.

Prior to her promotion, she had been working as a Director of Early Clinical Development Statistics, after joining Pfizer as an Associate Director of Biostatistics in 2017.

Dr Demanuele Nayak is an alumni of the University of Malta, where she studied for a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, graduating summa cum laude, before moving on to the University of Southampton to conduct her postdoctorate degree.

Pfizer is an American multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology corporation headquartered in Manhattan, New York.

Recently, the company has become known for its vital contribution to the fight against the COVID pandemic, with its successful development and production of one of the most effective COVID vaccines.
