The Board of Directors of the Malta Maritime Forum has nominated judge Emeritus Joseph Zammit McKeon as its second Chairman, succeeding Joe Borg who was “instrumental” in the establishment of the Forum, becoming its Founding Chairman in 2015.

Judge Emeritus Zammit Mckeon has had an illustrious career as a lawyer and civil servant in Malta. Born in Floriana, he achieved a Doctor of Laws in 1982, before being appointed as the first President of the Commission for the Promotion of Occupational Health and Safety.

In 2001, he was appointed as the first Chairman of Malta Transport Authority. In 2006 he was appointed as the first Chairman of the Board of Appeal from Awards on Tenders by Local Councils.

He was appointed Judge of the Superior Courts of Malta in January 2009. In this role, he served in the First Hall Civil Court, and as from 9th April 2018, he was President of the Civil Court (Commercial Section).

He retired from the Bench in March of this year, after reaching the retirement of age 65.

At the latest Annual General Assembly of the Forum in March, Dr Borg announced that he would be retiring from the post of Chairman and Board member once a new Chairman was ready to take over.

Following a “brief but intensive process” that ensued after the General Assembly, the Forum was pleased to announce the nomination of Judge Emeritus Zammit McKeon.

On his part, he thanked his predecessor for his “untiring efforts and selfless initiatives towards the maritime industry” and promised to carry on Dr Borg’s vision to “make the Forum the respected and vibrant on all matters related to the Maritime Industry and the Blue Economy”.

Judge Emeritus Zammit Mckeon acknowledged the “arduous task” ahead, but expressed confidence in the Forum’s success, due to “dynamist and expertise of his colleagues”.
