Malta International Airport (MIA) has reported strong growth in passenger numbers and financial performance for the first nine months of 2025, showcasing a robust recovery and ongoing expansion in its operations.

The group’s net profit stood at €41.4 million by the end of September, positioning Malta International Airport well within the financial targets set in its August guidance.

Between January and September, the airport welcomed 7.6 million passengers, marking a 10.8 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. This surge in traffic contributed to the group’s revenue reaching €118.5 million, nearly 10 per cent higher than in 2024.

October alone recorded 978,445 passengers, reflecting a 16.7 per cent year-on-year increase. The airport’s seat capacity also rose by 17.3 per cent compared to October 2024, while maintaining a healthy seat load factor (SLF) of 86.1 per cent, signaling sustained strong demand for travel to and from Malta.

The United Kingdom remained the top market, accounting for 20 per cent of October’s passenger movements. Italy held the second position with steady growth of 1 per cent, followed by Germany, where Munich and Frankfurt airports led traffic flows.

Poland was the fastest-growing market in October with a remarkable 60.6 per cent increase, while France rounded out the top five countries.

Rising passenger volumes and operational demands led to increases in staff costs (18.6 per cent) and other operating expenses (15.6 per cent) during the period, enabling MIA to maintain high service standards amid busier operations.

Capital expenditure reached €42.2 million between January and September, focusing heavily on major infrastructure projects like Apron 8 and SkyParks Business Centre II, which are essential to accommodate future growth and enhance the airport’s capacity.
