Passenger traffic through Malta International Airport continued to gain momentum in March, reaching 815,947 movements.

This marks a notable improvement over March 2025, when Malta International Airport recorded 725,134 passenger movements, meaning traffic has increased by 12.5 per cent year-on-year.

According to the airport’s latest traffic results, daily movements peaked at 34,005 on 29th March, ahead of a public holiday at the end of the month, signalling a strong late-month surge in travel demand.

The March figures reflect a clear step up from February of this year, when passenger traffic peaked at 30,875 on 15th February, driven largely by Carnival and Valentine’s Day travel. The month-on-month increase highlights the seasonal ramp-up as Malta transitions into the spring and summer travel period.

Aircraft movements in March totalled 5,283, marking a 10.2 per cent increase year-on-year, while seat load factor stood at 84.7 per cent, slightly down by 0.5 percentage points. This compares with February’s stronger year-on-year growth in aircraft movements of 12.1 per cent and a lower load factor of 81.6 per cent.

Market dynamics also shifted between the two months. In March, the United Kingdom emerged as Malta’s largest source market, accounting for 20.0 per cent of total passenger movements, overtaking Italy, which followed at 18.0 per cent. Poland (12.6 per cent), Germany (7.6 per cent) and Spain (5.5 per cent) rounded out the top five markets.

This marks a reversal from February, when Italy led with an 18.2 per cent share, narrowly ahead of the United Kingdom at 18.1 per cent. Poland, Germany and Spain maintained their positions among the top markets, albeit with slightly different shares.
