Local restaurateurs and the culinary minds behind The Pulled Meat Company and Briju, brothers Rafel and Andrea Sammut, have announced the launch of a ‘Victory Kitchen’ concept.

Taking to social media, Rafel Sammut explained that the team is committing themselves to feeding at least one hungry family per day, hopefully serving more in the weeks to come.

He urged anybody who knows of a family struggling to make ends meet to contact him via Facebook, or one of the pages of the restaurants. He also encouraged any companies who can sponsor meals for families to get in touch.

Mr Sammut was touched by a media report detailing a family who expressed serious concern at being able to keep food on the table. Following on this, he urged the public to consider any action they can take to cushion the blow COVID-19 will have on the most vulnerable.

He also launched a delivery/pick-up service of cooked and frozen foods, as restaurants, bars and pubs have been ordered to close their doors.

Malta registered 17 new cases of the virus on Sunday, reaching 90. A small increase in locally transmitted cases has led to new measures being introduced, mainly the closure of non-essential retail outlets and non-essential services.
