A recent video made by Johann Agius, featuring his prose expressing frustration at the state of Malta, has gone viral in the span of five days.

Titled ‘Għażiża Malta’, the video amassed nearly 400,000 views across popular social media platforms Instagram, TikTok and Facebook.

Sharing the thought behind the video, the Freelance Marketing Consultant highlighted that the words in the video are not a poem.

“It is simply a brutally honest piece of prose that I felt necessary to write out of frustration and the desire for a better place for all of us to live in and thrive,” he wrote on LinkedIn.

The prose starts off with ‘dear Malta’ addressing the country in the style of an open letter. It tackles issues like lack of greenery, heavy construction, rampant traffic, greed and mental health issues.

“Love for money has become blind, with leaders lacking vision,” Mr Agius says in the video.

Mr Agius also notes that "this jewel in the middle of the Mediterranean," as it is frequently referred to, is now "dirty and cracked."

“Dear Malta, what’s left? Perhaps a flight, but this time one-way,” the video ends.

Commenting on the response to the video, Mr Agius remarked that he is overwhelmed by and simultaneously grateful for the response he has received over a short period of time, “especially from activists and Maltese expats who live abroad.”
