On Thursday morning Lidl Malta, a leading retail chain locally, opened its store in Sliema.
The new supermarket is located in Triq Amery, Sliema and represents the ninth Lidl store on the Maltese Islands, with eight in Malta and one in Gozo. The employment impact of this opening is noteworthy, the company stessed: “Following a period of training and induction, 30 new hires have joined the large team of Lidl Malta”.
The company currently employs over 400 people in Malta - in its nine stores, its warehouse and national headquarters.
With an approximate sales area of 1.150 square metres, the new Lidl comes from a renovation project of an existing building, resulting in zero land consumption, the company stressed.
The renovation of the structure was designed with particular attention to its environmental impact, using the integration of sustainable technologies and energy efficiency systems.
“The structure is equipped with large windows that enhance the natural light. This store disposes of a LED lighting system that allows to save over 50 per cent of the energy compared to previous technologies.”
The store's car park, consisting of over 40 parking spaces, is equipped with a charging column for electric bikes, Lidl Malta added.
The new store in Sliema offers a wide range of over 2,500 products, “including fresh fruits and vegetables and an in-store bakery with fresh bread and pastries daily”.
Furthermore, Lidl says that it has continuously increased its Maltese product base, working hand in hand with local suppliers, “thus offering a wide selection of product categories that allow customers to be able to make all the necessary purchases in a single store and at an excellent quality-price ratio”.
The store will be open from Sunday to Wednesday from 7am till 7pm and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7am till 10pm and further information on its special offers can be obtained by clicking here.
