KM Malta Airlines (KMMA) has joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Leadership Charter as a signatory airline.
This was announced by Executive Chairman David Curmi on LinkedIn.
“Joining over 100 global airlines, we intend to support the continuous evolution of safety by implementing fundamental safety leadership principles within our organisation,” he said.
The charter is a global initiative founded on the principle of strengthening organisational safety culture through highlighting this element as a driver for continuous improvement in safety performance. This is done by proposing commitment to key leadership principles and supporting practical actions.
The charter was received by Tyrone Galea, Captain and Director of Safety and Compliance on behalf of KMMA.
“It was a proud moment for us yesterday to stand on stage with other industry leaders at the IATA Winds of Change Europe, which was held in Rome, to receive the Charter document in recognition of this commitment,” Mr Curmi said.
He remarked that this charter acts as an essential enabler for a successful business and a thriving aviation industry.
Some of the charter’s guiding principles include:
- Lead the obligation to safety through words and actions.
- Foster safety awareness with employees, the leadership team, and the board.
- Guide the integration of safety into business strategies, processes, and performance measures.
- Regularly assess and improve organisational safety culture.
- Establish a working environment in which clear expectations of acceptable and unacceptable behaviours are communicated and understood.
