On Thursday, KM Malta Airlines Director David Curmi announced that the airline has achieved “another important milestone” by becoming a full member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The IATA is a trade body established in 1945 by a group of airlines. Today, it represents around 320 airlines from over 129 countries. Members of the IATA benefit from having representation and an experienced voice that supports and promotes the airlines’ interest.

According to IATA, this is done through international recognition and lobbying, targeting key industry priorities, driving industry change, reducing costs, communication campaigns, training, and other services.

Mr Curmi stated that the company is looking forward to working with and within IATA “to reap the benefits of this leading international organisation.”

He highlighted that IATA’s priorities included global safety, protecting the industry’s ability to grow sustainably, driving digital transformation with the industry and a trusted source for aviation industry data.

“We would like to thank IATA for the tremendous support we received in our complex transition. IATAs support was instrumental in achieving a seamless transition,” Mr Curmi concluded.

KM Malta Airlines started operations on 31st March as Malta’s sole national airline after its predecessor, Air Malta, ceased operations the day prior, 50 years after its first flight.
