Following the liquidation of cruise liner operator Pullmantur Group, General Manager Joseph Peregin had had his contract terminated.

To make matters worse, Mr Peregin was made aware of the development on his 64th birthday, just before reaching pensionable age: “It’s ironic that the first time I was made redundant in my 45-year career, was just before I reached pensionable age, on my 64th birthday,” shared on Sunday.

He explained that the COVID-19 pandemic has dealt “a massive blow” to the cruise liner business, with Pullmantur Group in particular suffering “an irrecoverable consequence and had no alternative but to go through a liquidation process”.

“So, after six years, my contract as General Manager of the Pullmantur Malta office has now been officially terminated,” he added.

While he is sad that it had to end that way, he also expressed gratitude for “everything he has learned and experienced” at Pullmantur and other workplaces. He thanked colleagues and collaborators, while also welcoming “opportunities that make this stage more active”.

Mr Peregin also encouraged people that think his experience could prove useful to get in touch.

Prior to his time at Pullmantur Group, he worked as Senior Manager of Projects at Salvo Grima Group for almost 12 years, where he facilitated the assessment of new opportunities, including spearheading its rebranding effort in 2010. He also served as Managing Director of Tudor Press Ltd for over 16 years, the company that introduced digital offset printing in Malta and was a co-founding member of the Malta Printing Industry Association. Additionally, he also occupied other positions at various production companies, during which he “developed an entrepreneurial spirit”.

Headquartered in Madrid, Pullmantur Group has operated in the tourism sector for more than 40 years, focusing on the cruise liner business. Through its operations in the Mediterranean Sea as well as in Northern European seas, the Caribbean Sea, and the Brazilian coast, it has a daily capacity of more than 10,000 passengers. Apart from its offices in Valletta, it also has sales offices in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, France, and Portugal.
