Inġiniera Malta, the joint committee between the Chamber of Engineers and Chamber of Architects has announced the appointment of one of its own members to the European Monitoring Committee (EMC) of Engineers Europe.
Jeanette M. Muñoz Abela was “successfully accepted onto the committee” after being nominated by Inġiniera Malta.
Dr Muñoz Abela is an Architect and Structural Engineer, as well as Co-Founder of Bureau 105, a design studio specialising in re-designing, re-thinking and re-framing spaces for diverse communities. She studied architecture and civil engineering at University of Malta and read for a Master’s and PhD in Structural Engineering at Imperial College London. She also held a post-Doctoral position and lectured at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
The EMC's role is to evaluate EUR ING and European Engineering Education Database (EEED) applications from National Member Committees, Inġiniera Malta in Malta's case.
This appointment comes a year after the election of Ing. Michelle Cortis to the Engineers Europe Executive Board, which was a first in Malta's name.
Malcolm Zammit, President of the Chamber of Engineers, commented on Dr Muñoz Abela’s latest achievement and stated that he will remain committed to support her along with Ing. Cortis, “in their important roles to represent the profession in the international fora”.
