Janice Bartolo has announced her new position as Senior Communications Officer at Malta Development Bank.

Ms Bartolo began her career as a news reader for radio in 2006. She then held a post as an English language teacher before being a news anchor for ONE productions, the TV station of the Labour Party, for four years.

She was then picked as Senior Manager at the Malta Tourism Authority. She held the post for nearly two years, before working as a freelance writer. Ms Bartolo then shifted to operations manager at the National Development and Social Fund before working at the Malta Development Bank.

The Malta Development Bank (MDB) was established by the Government in 2017 to support the social and economic development of the country by offering financial facilities that encourage investment in areas where traditional financial markets are unable or unwilling to support on their own.

The MDB is not a bank in its traditional meaning: it involves itself in specific sectors where credit institutions are reluctant to do so on their own, generally because the potential returns on a project do not fully compensate for the risks involved. The MDB collaborates with commercial banks by providing guarantee and co-lending facilities, which act as a stimulus for additional investment financing.

It keeps itself in direct contact with the banks and the business community to identify investment gaps and challenges and to chart a way to address such market needs.
