The fashion giant Monsoon Accessorize is celebrating 25 years in Malta with a week of in store promotions and prizes.
WhosWho.mt caught up with Jackie Urpani, the local co-owner and co-director of the brand, during this busy week to see how she’s feeling about reaching this milestone.
“We’re having a great time!”, she says enthusiastically. “I can’t believe we got here. It’s all gone by so quickly!”
The brand, which has seven locations across Malta and Gozo, is going from strength to strength. Ms Urpani credits her team for their successes, and speaks highly of the British company’s direction.
“The brand has been amazing throughout the years,” she says. “Always at the forefront of fashion, always striving to be up there, always innovating the products.”
This does not mean the journey has been without its challenges.
“The high rents are always an issue, especially in prime locations like Sliema,” she explains.
“But the area has not been looked after at all,” she continues. “Parking is a major issue, and the area in general has seen a decline over the last five or six years.”
She also calls out the authorities for touting Sliema as a prime commercial district but providing no help to enhance the area. “We saw the same happening in Valletta.”
On the other hand, new locations like the Pama complex in Mosta proved to be an unexpected success. Despite the dearth of tourists driving demand in that area of the country, Ms Urpani says they have seen “quite an amazing response, proving to be one of our busiest shops”.
Asked if there are any developments in the pipeline, Ms Urpani says that the development of their online store is their next priority. “We went online in a rush due to COVID, but over the past month we have employed a new online manager and are going over the details to really provide customers with a great experience.”
More news on that front is expected over the next couple of weeks.
In the meantime, Ms Urpani cuts off to continue celebrating her business’s quarter of a century in operation.
