On Thursday, the medical profession was saddened by the news of the passing of former nurse and educator Salvina Bonello.

Announcing the news on Facebook, the nursing department within University of Malta (UM) noted that Ms Bonello was a dedicated former educator “who influenced and inspired countless students.”

One of the units taught by Ms Bonello at UM was that of ‘Aspects of Management in Health Care’.

In addition, Puttinu Cares joined in bidding farewell to its colleague.

“Many nurses and healthcare professionals have had the privilege of knowing Salvina Bonello, a dedicated woman who has given so much to the nursing profession over the years,” the NGO said on Facebook.

The team behind Puttinu shared that her discipline, knowledge, and best care for patients were her passion.

It emphasised that she was an integral part of its history and story and “will be deeply missed.”

Many people joined in sending their sympathies to the family and described her as always being kind and compassionate with her students.

“She was an exemplary nurse who always taught us to be professional in our appearance, in our nursing duties and our humility towards the patient. She was strict but always with good intentions,” one commentor wrote.

Others described her as being a strongly principled woman, highly compassionate and for “the epitome of dedication to the nursing profession.”

Her funeral will be held on Friday 19th July (today) at 4pm, at the parish church in Siġġiewi.
