Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade, extended his congratulations to Donald Trump on his election as the new President of the United States.
"Malta looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with the United States of America in the same spirit of friendship and cooperation that has characterised recent years," Dr Borg shared in a LinkedIn post.
Mr Trump declared victory early on 6th November (today), moments after the Associated Press (an American newspaper) called Pennsylvania in his favour—bringing him to the brink of clinching the White House.
Speaking to supporters from his election night headquarters in Palm Beach, he said, "This was a movement like nobody’s ever seen before, and frankly, I believe this was the greatest political movement of all time."
He was flanked by his wife Melania, his children, and his running mate, Senator JD Vance.
Mr Trump secured decisive wins in several battleground states and made significant gains in traditionally strong Democratic counties to triumph over Kamala Harris in the U.S. presidential election.
Taking the stage earlier today, he vowed to usher in "a new golden age" for the United States, promising to "make America great again."
"Every single day," he added, "I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body."
At the time of writing, Mr Trump had amassed 267 of the 270 electoral college votes needed.
As of yet, Mr Trump has not officially been declared victorious, however Ms Harris's chances of a late upset are slim to none, resulting in several media outlets welcoming Mt Trump as the 47th President of the world's largest economy.
