Alex Cutajar, the Founding Partner of Velvet Marketing inc., has claimed that the step into self-employment has been a difficult, yet very rewarding for multiple reasons.

Posting on social media, Mr Cutajar said that 2020 “was a truly challenging year”, with his first year in self-employment being blighted by a tourism industry that was struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I admit that I have had my moments of self-doubts – However I decided to continue working hard and consistently,” Mr Cutajar said.

He also said that working for yourself means that you will end up as your own teacher, claiming that he has learned to manage his time, finances, customer engagement and many more skills, in a better manner.

“I look back at where I started today and I thank myself for taking this decision,” Mr Cutajar added.

“I encourage others not to give up on their journey. You must keep yourself encourage and motivated. It is a difficult journey with ups and downs but with big satisfaction.”

Velvet Marketing was founded in 2020, with the aim of being a marketing agency that focuses on building personal relationships with clients, flexibility, innovation as well as having a targeted focus and strategy when it comes to their marketing campaigns.

Mr Cutajar is known in political circles after serving as Head of Communications within the Tourism Ministry under the controversial Minister Konrad Mizzi.

He was mainly in charge of the Ministry of Tourism’s marketing, communications and strategy during the years that Mr Mizzi served as Minister of Tourism.

Mr Cutajar opened Velvet Marketing after Minister Mizzi resigned from Cabinet in November 2019, leading to Mr Cutajar to also leave his role in Government.

Apart from being a Founder of Velvet Marketing, he is also a Partner of Concierge Services company TEMPLE, the Head of Crisis and Reputation Management at ESD FZC, and also a Marketing Communications Consultant at Viracy.
