Plans for a 15-storey, three-star hotel in Triq San Vincenz, Sliema, have been submitted by hotel magnate, Carlo Stivala.
The application PA/02965/23 describes plans for the demolition of existing internal structures- with the existing facades to be retained- and redevelopment of same property into a three-star hotel, consisting of 14 floors plus receded floor level.
The project will also involve a ground floor level restaurant, ancillary offices, meeting and conference rooms at levels one to four, hotel rooms at levels five to 14 and bar. A pool and a deck at receded floor level are also part of the proposals.
The proposed development, which will replace a three to four-storey-high corner building, is set to tower above the present residences in Triq San Vincenz that currently stand at a three-storey height
Falzon & Cutajar is the firm listed as the project’s architect yet architect Robert Musumeci was reported to be the architect behind the design.
Back in 2015, when the first proposal of eight floors in the same area had first emerged, objections had rained down both from residents and environmental NGOs. Although a case officer had recommended refusal, permit had been granted, however, and the appeal that followed was rejected.
With the amended proposal set at 15-storeys one is not surprised that concerns are now even more pronounced and the stakeholders behind them even more vociferous.
