Malta's waters came alive with magic as a Disney-themed ocean liner enjoyed an overnight visit to Valletta Cruise Port.
Valletta Cruise Port shared that the Disney Dream, the third ship in Disney Cruise Line’s collection, made its maiden call to the Maltese Islands, having an overnight stay on 30th June, before leaving on Monday evening.
Launched in 2010, the Disney Dream features 14 towering decks and the capacity to accommodate 4,000 passengers. Its first voyage commenced in 2011.
Disney Cruise Line is a cruise line subsidiary within The Walt Disney Company, first incorporated in 1996. It operates five ships, namely Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Wish, with three more ships expected to join the fleet in the coming years.
In its announcement, Valletta Cruise Port said that the cruise ship was specifically designed with families in mind, having a combination of a sleek style and convenient facilities “with a dash of magic.”
“Did you know that Disney ships are the only cruise ships to have four captains – the Ship’s Captain, along with Captain Mickey, Captain Hook, and Captain Jack Sparrow?” Valletta Cruise Port commented, in reference to Disney’s iconic characters.

The ship’s interior has a combination of Art Deco design together with features from the world of American animation pioneer Walt Disney.
Cabins include virtual portholes that broadcast the view of the outside and animated Disney characters.
The Disney Dream ship horn tends to leave quite an impression, with it being able to sound a number of musical lines from prominent Disney movies, including “When You Wish Upon a Star” from the 1940 adaptation of Pinocchio, as well as “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me” from the renowned Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise, among others.

The cruise ship has an Art Deco-style chandelier in its atrium, created in Brixen (Italy) with thousands of hand-crafted crystal beads together with colourful glass work. It has a diameter of 6.7 metres and comes down almost four metres from the ceiling. The chandelier is 24 karat gold plated and has a total of 88,680 Swarovski crystal beads.
All of Disney Cruise Line’s ships have an atrium lobby statue that puts the limelight on a classic Disney character, with the Disney Dream having Donald Duck portrayed as an admiral.
