The concession renewal for Terminal Intermodale Venezia (TIV) in Venice, jointly owned by Hili Company and Marinvest, an MSC subsidiary, has been unanimously approved by the management committee of the Port System Authority of the Northern Adriatic Sea.
The privately-owned container terminal operates in the commercial port of Marghera within the Port of Venice.
Hili Company is a terminals and logistics firm that has roots dating back to 1923. In the 1990s, it acquired its first container terminal, BCT in Riga, Latvia. This was then followed by the acquisition of TIV in 2003, through a joint venture. Following a period of development of the group’s portfolio, its incorporated Mariner Shipping in 2017, offering ship agency and other related logistics services.
The duration of the concession is for an additional 25 years starting from 2025 until 2050.
The company has also submitted an investment programme as part of the renewal process, in a bid to highlight its commitment to continue developing and improving port activity. The plan, valued at over €110 million for the 25-year period, will be aimed at continuous improvement of the overall facility, including infrastructure, cargo handling equipment, information technology (IT), and automation.
A key part of the investment programme is to increase environmental sustainability, seeking to do so by reducing emissions and improving energy consumption achieved with modern equipment and increased efficiency.
Following the concession renewal, TIV Director and Hili Company CEO Edward Hili stated that the company’s investment programme would allow it to continue its growth and development, whilst enhancing its service offering to clients in a sustainable manner within the Port of Venice.
