Accelleron, a global technology company specialising in turbocharging, fuel injection, and digital solutions, has announced that it will now also accelerate sustainability in the marine and energy industries.

Building on a heritage of over 100 years as a trusted industry partner, the company serves customers in more than 100 locations in over 50 countries.
Accelleron employs 3,000 employees, who continuously innovate to deliver best-in-class products, services, and solutions that are mission-critical for decarbonisation and the energy transition.

The company’s core contribution to sustainability lies in its cutting-edge turbochargers and fuel injection systems, which significantly improve energy efficiency. These solutions lead to substantial fuel savings and lower emissions over their lifespan. Through comprehensive services and upgrades, Accelleron ensures that its technology continues to perform optimally throughout its lifetime.

Strategic partnerships driving innovation and decarbonisation

A key pillar of the company’s strategy is the development of strong partnerships that enhance its capabilities and broaden its impact in the marine and energy sectors. By collaborating with leading industry players, Accelleron drives innovation, accelerates decarbonisation, and helps customers navigate the energy transition.

One of their strategic partnerships is with SOMAS, a renowned manufacturer of control and on/off valves, particularly recognised for its expertise in the marine sector. This collaboration significantly strengthens the company’s ability to deliver cleaner, more efficient marine propulsion systems, further advancing the decarbonisation of the maritime industry.

Accelleron is now the authorised global service provider for SOMAS’s marine customers, a role that includes training service engineers to maintain SOMAS’s valves on marine installations, particularly in exhaust aftertreatment systems like selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).

Like turbochargers, these systems are crucial for filtering air pollutants and maintaining peak engine efficiency to help vessels meet stringent environmental regulations.

This collaboration extends Accelleron’s service offering to include additional components of the engine’s exhaust system, leveraging Accelleron’s unique global network of Swiss-trained service engineers to provide SOMAS’ customers with 24/7 support. By combining advanced turbocharging and SOMAS’s emissions-control expertise, the partnership delivers robust services from one source, increasing uptime, reliability, and efficiency for shipping operators.

In addition to its partnership with SOMAS, Accelleron has also strengthened its service portfolio through a strategic collaboration with Geislinger, a family-run Austrian company specialising in powertrain solutions. Under this agreement, the company has been appointed as the authorised service provider for Geislinger products in Italy, Bulgaria, and Malta.

Geislinger chose Accelleron for its extensive service network and technical expertise, which are essential for promoting and supporting its products in these regions. This partnership reinforces Accelleron’s position as a key service provider, supporting customers in maximising operational efficiency while adhering to changing environmental standards.

Recent acquisitions have strengthened Accelleron’s decarbonisation offering

The acquisition of complementary technologies has also expanded Accelleron’s capabilities and supported its purpose of accelerating decarbonisation in the maritime industry. As digitalisation has become a key driver for decarbonisation, Accelleron has strategically expanded its digital offerings through the acquisition of True North Marine (TNM) in August 2204.

Accelleron

Integrating TNM's voyage optimisation technology and end-to-end charter consultancy with Accelleron’s Tekomar XPERT modules for turbocharger, engine, and hull and propeller optimisation, optimisation, CII forecasts, and emissions certificates, Accelleron now offers a unique industry offering combining technical, operational, and commercial insights.

Additionally, with the acquisition of Officine Meccaniche Torino S.p.A. (OMT) in July 2023, the company reinforced its position as a leading innovator for carbon-neutral fuel technologies that support the use of methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen in large marine engines and other heavy-duty applications.

Subsequently, in July 2024, OMT entered into an agreement to acquire O.M.C. 2 Diesel S.p.A. (OMC2), an Italian manufacturer of high-precision fuel injection equipment for four-stroke engines, further expanding Accelleron's production capacity to allow it to answer the growing demand for fuel injection systems, driven by the trend towards dual fuel engines requiring multiple and differentiated injectors.

Accelleron’s strategic partnerships and acquisitions have further reinforced Accelleron’s position as a trusted partner in the global energy transition, as well as supporting shipping companies in shaping a more environmentally and economically sustainable future.
