The Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Malta, Aaron Grech, recently participated in a talk on economic and financial literacy aimed at young people.
In a press release, the Central Bank of Malta highlighted the importance of finance and economics in the lives of youths. It noted that financial matters play a key role in issues such as employment, housing, and recreation, making financial literacy an essential life skill. The Bank also emphasised that economics has significant social and political implications, with economic models, quality of life, and the distribution of wealth all having a direct impact on young people's futures.
These themes were explored during a discussion organised by Żgħażagħ għall-Bidla, an independent youth-led platform in Malta dedicated to empowering the next generation of citizens.
In a social media post, the organisation's founder, Luke Fenech, described the event as highly engaging, saying it provided young people with a valuable platform to voice their concerns, perspectives, and opportunities related to finance and economics.
The session was also addressed by the Minority Leader at the Luqa Local Council, Frederick Aquilina, who joined Dr Grech in sharing insights tailored to the audience.
The event was held in collaboration with the Mosta Local Council.
