Chris Agius, a Member of Parliament for the Labour Party, has been appointed Chairperson of Yachting Malta, a public-private partnership between the Government of Malta and the Royal Malta Yacht Club that promotes Malta as a yachting destination.
He succeeds Jonathan Borg as the fourth Chairman of the organisation.
Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Aaron Farrugia took to social media to announce the appointment, pointing out that it was Mr Agius who “gave birth to this entity with a clear vision” back in 2015, when he served as Parliamentary Secretary for Sport.
Minister Farrugia said that his previous collaboration with Mr Agius makes him confident that he would do a good job in his new role.
In response to a request for comment, Yachting Malta CEO Michael Mifsud tells WhosWho.mt that the appointment is “very welcome news”.
“I have worked with him in the past, especially on the sport aspect of yachting, and we have always had a mutual respect for each other,” he says.

“It is very beneficial that someone of Hon. Agius’s stature takes the helm of the entity now that the new yachting policy is soon to be launched,” he continued.
“I am sure that with his direction Yachting Malta will further strengthen its vision and remit in the interest of making Malta a yachting destination of excellence.”
Meanwhile, Yachting Malta’s Board of Directors and the rest of the team welcomed the appointment, saying they are looking forward to working with him “at what is an exciting time for Yachting Malta and the various elements of the yachting industry.”
