Guests of the Preluna Hotel in Sliema have been evacuated as a precaution after a fire broke out on the third floor, police have confirmed.

The extent of the damage is not yet known, and webcam footage as at 11.12am no longer shows dark smoke emerging from the hotel.

The fire alarm was raised at around 9.30am.

Several emergency vehicles were spotted on site, and reportedly quickly brought the situation under control. Nobody was injured during the incident.

Minister for Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality of Malta Byron Camilleri issued a statement on social media confirming that Civil Protection services arrived on the scene shortly after the fire broke out, and that the hotel followed all evacuation protocols to bring people to safety.

He also said that according to reports, no people were stuck in the building or suffered injury.
