Sliema café Straws/Serafino is set to close its doors for good after 43 years in operation, owners Lino and Patsy Angileri announced on Tuesday.

Straws/Serafino, located in St Dominic Street, is one of Sliema’s longest-lasting cafés. Throughout the years, it became a staple for many locals, together with visitors seeking to stop for a coffee or grab a quick ftira.

They expressed their gratitude to the loyal customers who supported the café over the years.

“We have made many friendships and a lot of memories which we will cherish forever, but it is now time for us to take a step back and enjoy our family,” the pair shared.

While the café will officially close on Thursday, as of mid-January, customers will be able to order from a limited menu via delivery.

“Hope to see you in the next few days, and if not, wishing you and your families a wonderful Christmas and New Year,” the owners concluded.

Many wished them all the best on their retirement, stating that it is the “end of an era” for one of Sliema’s most popular coffeeshops. Others recalled the various memories they have of the café, looking back on the conversations they used to have with Lino and Patsy.
